New Year, New Pipes

Many New Englander revelers rang in the new year with frozen pipe burst putting a damper on their celebrations.

According to the National Weather Service in Taunton, Boston has broken a nearly 100-year-old record for lowest high temperature on Dec. 28 2017.  The record, set in 1924, was 18 degrees. Thursday’s lowest high temperature was 12 degrees — 6 degrees lower than the previous record.  And to add insult to injury the cold spell lasted the remainder of the week.

Roof Needed Repair Due to Ice Dams

Ice dams formed due to a combination of a bitter cold front and the structure of the home’s roof line.  The ice dam was discovered in the valley where the garage roof meets the siding of the second floor.  Thus, creating a “dead valley” an area on the roof where a valley meets an obstruction such as a wall or a chimney not allowing water to flow away from the home.  As a result the roof had to be repaired and part of the exterior home had to be repainted.
